This place is great! The food is well spiced and clearly very fresh. I had the seafood sopa. The broth was amazing and there was a ton of seafood in it. The dining area is very Spartan, but what else would you want. It's about the food. My girlfriend had the asada taco dinner. I had a bite and it was great - definitely on par with the other fantastic authentic ethnic restaurants in the area. Five stars, absolutely.

Delicious food! I recommend trying their pupusas, boiled plantains, tamales, and their horchata. I've only dined here once but have been looking forward to go back since. Friendly service, casual interior. Their housemade chips and salsa is good too, and they are complimentary. More details in my GR Food Blog: justagrainofsalt.wordpre…

I was craving plantains and found this little gem on yelp. My husband picked up an order of fried plantains and the veggie pupusas. It was delicious and authentic.

I took a star off of a perfect rating mainly because the atmosphere is a little dirty, plain and dingy- everything else, however, was perfect!! We started with the plantains, which were sautéed until crispy around the edges and served with a heavy crema- sort of a mayonnaise mixed with sour cream. They were sweet and tasty especially with the green salsa they serve with chips and red salsa at the beginning of the meal. We both had the two pupusas meal with a shrimp pupusa and a beef pupusa- served with beans and rice. These pupusas are like quesadillas on steroids; they are fluffy, rich and buttery and the cheese is both melted and crispy in some spots- totally delicious. They are served with curtido, which is a fermented cabbage that is spicy, sour and crunchy- really cuts through the richness of the pupusas. The beans were also really good, which I'm not usually crazy about. We also had horchata which was very sweet but tasty!!! It was a delicious but very rich meal; we will be back!

Gotta say I was very happy with the food! I had the Papusa plate and it was excellent. I have never had food from El Salvador but the food seemed pretty authentic. I plan on making this place a regular stop for me now! As far as the place goes it's not a amazing looking restaurant. It's got your tables and chairs and some Spanish music playin. The place is clean the people are friendly and I was pretty relaxed there. This is a place that you come here for the food some come here it's good!

I recently visited Pupuseria El Salvador. I couldn't figure out what I was in the mood to eat, so I referred to Yelp. What I read about the food, was mostly positive. I ordered the cactus and chicken pupusa, which apparently is a staple there. Both were really yummy. Next time, I am going to try the seafood soup! To top it off, the staff was really friendly.

This place is great! Oddly enough, I LOVED everything I had except the pupusas (not bad by any means, just not mind blowing like the rest of the meal). Still, it was interesting to eat the cactus and loroco flower pupusas because how often do you get the chance to eat something exotic like that? Fast and friendly service. Authentic and delicious food. My new go-to in Grand Rapids.

At first I was a little nervous because of a review about the restaurant.com coupon he used... I used it no problem. First time there so I didn't know what to order so I got a chicken sub, carnitas pupusas, 3 steak tacos and plantanos for my wife and I to share. It was better than I anticipated, even my extremely American wife loved it! Will definitely be coming back here again,. Only issue I had was with the limes, they were dried out. See attached picture. It shows the lines, and my empty plate because it was ALL GONE!

Wow! Best meal I've had in quite a while. The seafood soup is a must-have. Quite a few head-on shrimps along with a good sized crab and chunks of fish. All in a flavorful coconut (or what I perceived to be) laced broth. The young lady at the counter is very cheerful and helpful, both on the phone for my take out order and in person. We are in Grand Rapids 2 1/2 more days. Might try to convince rest of the family to eat here again.

Some of the best popusas! I am so happy this hidden gem exists in Grand Rapids. Everything is authentic and delicious. Be sure to try the tamales de elote and of course the popusas. Great service too! Keep in mind everything is homemade, so if it's a little busy be patient! It will be worth the wait.

I'm visiting Grand Rapids and caught a cold went there to get a sopa de patas very deliciouse and wholesome. For dessert we ordered platanos Fritos with crema y frijoles soooo yummy. A little pricey for two soups and the platanos came out to $30 bucks. But over good and tasty food!

I love this restaurant! (¡Me encanta este restaurante!). The wide variety of food choices is so appealing. I photographed the menu and posted it here. Take a look at it. You'll want to enjoy a meal here, I'm sure.

Incredible!! This is why I love Yelp - a hotel would never recommend a place like this and it was the best!!!

I love that even in my very own small city of Grand Rapids, Michigan I can walk into a local establishment and be swept off to another culture for a moment. I felt this today when on a whim I entered "Pupuseria El Salvador". From the not so grandiose entrance, to the mismatched decor, greetings of buenos dìas from behind the counter and the buzz of Spanish filling my ears--a smile swept my face. I almost knew that the food was going to be muy bien before my first taste. wp.me/p1TUz3-4e

My wife is from El Salvador and this restaurant has very authentic salvadoren food. We live in California where we get allot of Salvadoren food, this restraunt is a great asset and a plus for the Grand Rapids area. Gives variety to the area. We recommend this place very highly.

I'm not a huge fan of Burton heights, but its worth braving the shitty neighborhood to check out these pupusas. I didn't know what one was until I came here and I was pleased to learn that it is a modified gordita(authentic not the taco bell ones) corn tortilla/pita type thing stuffed with meats and cheeses and served with a salsa and pickled slaw. They're very tasty. Their beans and rice are good as are the El-salvadorian treats: plantains, yucca. Check em out.
